Hello again
and welcome to my August newsletter John Leyton on drums

Yes it’s that time of year again, I mean the annual holiday season and if any of you are planning to visit the seaside resort of Margate on Monday 14th August I’m appearing as a guest on the ‘Big L Summer Road Show’. The show is being ‘aired’ live from the sea front from 11a.m. to 1 p.m. The DJ is ‘Mike Read’ and performing will be that great group ‘The Drifters’ plus a few other guests. You can listen to the show on radio frequency 1395AM, on Sky channel 0190 or on the internet at

'The Rapiers’ and myself are in concert at the Brightlingsea Leisure Centre on Saturday 26th August and I can confirm that we will also be in concert at the Vauxhall Holiday Park, Great Yarmouth on Friday 23rd March 2007. Ticket details to be announced when we have them. In addition ‘The Rapiers’ and myself have been in the studio rehearsing some new numbers for our concert set, so expect a few changes when you next see us in concert.

Whilst on the subject of concerts, plans are well advanced for a very special event to be held on Saturday 3rd February 2007 at the Wyllyotts Theatre, Potters Bar, Herts. Artistes scheduled to appear include myself, The Tornados, The Honeycombs, Cliff Bennett, The Packabeats, The Scorpions, Bobby Rio, M/C Mike Read and as a very special guest star my good friend Craig Douglas. This is a really fabulous line up, 4 UK No 1 Hit Makers on the same bill. No ticket details are available as yet, so please do not contact the Theatre, however we expect to make an announcement very shortly so please keep checking out the gig guide as we believe tickets will sell out very quickly. The event is being organised and sponsored by The Joe Meek Appreciation Society, Lone Rider Records and Western Star Records.

Looking ahead to September ‘The Rapiers’ and myself are appearing on Saturday 16th at the Eddie Cochran Weekend in Chippenham and I gather tickets are selling very quickly. I’m looking forward to this concert and meeting the legendary Charlie Gracie. We are also in concert at The Fernham Hall, Fareham on Saturday 2nd September.

I will be able to announce full details on my new CD in the coming weeks, meantime please check out the special ‘photo gallery’ on the website showing pictures from the recording sessions. The CD is currently on schedule for September release along with ‘Peter Williams’ Instrumental tribute CD to myself ‘Johnny Remember Me.’. However we will only be taking orders for both CD’s when we have them in stock. So no advance orders just yet please.

This month I’m recording radio specials for both Mike Read and Geoff Barker for transmission during September. We will give details of the transmission dates when they are confirmed.

Devon Life

This month’s edition of the Devon Life magazine contains an updated version of an interview that I did recently with Judi Spiers of BBC Radio Devon, the article also hopefully will contain some new pictures of myself.

Finally USA DJ ‘Matt Slys’ has recently aired another programme about Joe Meek, Matt has asked us to mention that his ‘Sunday Night’ show airs from 9p.m. to 12a.m.EST , you can tune in at Matt regularly plays tracks recorded by myself and other 60’s British artistes and is a great fan of the music recorded by Joe Meek.

Always yours.
